Bakelite is a molded synthetic resin that is characterized by a huge shape and temperature resistance (unlike, for example, plastic) and a huge insulation capacity against electric current. Bakelite began to replace porcelain in the early 1930s. Older bakelite was usually brown, brown-black or black, but since the 1940s it has also been available in white.
